ARCH 1201

Project 2: Room and Narrative

Draft- 3D model

I have created a thick wall with a staircase-like shapes carved into it. That is design to create an illusion for one to assume that there is a stairway that leads up to the upper space above. However, there will be no way for one to even get there, but only to the second space that enables one to make an observation and reflections.

Besides, I am stil trying to explore with the model and further improve on the idea of contradiction, with the use of lights and shadow.

As for the material used, I am going to select materials with a clean surface and not anything with rough surfaces, which may spoil the overall ambience of the space being slotful.

Project 2: Room and Narrative

As highlighted in the painting above, the cross bar in the window frame did not cast any shadow on the wall. This certainly provide an illusion where the scene that is painted is never were or never could happened. Thus this potrayed a sense of impossibility. For that, I will be using the idea of impossibility in creating the spaces of my container.
Nonetheless, looking from another point of view, the shadow of the cross bar that is not painted allows us to further speculate the painting - was it incomplete? Therefore a sense of ambiguity and curiosity is felt from this.
Furthermore, there is a clear contradiction between the setting of the outdoor and indoor area. As can be seen, the outdoor area seems lively, with the gentle wind whipping the trees and sunny weather. Unlike the indoor area, where there is nothing in the room but only shadows that are being casted on the empty wall. This simply deliver the idea of slotfulness and lifelessness. With that, I am now exploring with the idea of contradictiveness upon my spaces.

Project 2: Room and Narrative
This painting is focusing particulary on the light and the geometry.
As can be seen on how the lights and shadows are being casted on
the solid rectangular wall.

Upon lookin on the painting, it gives me a feeling of;
-loneliness
-bare
-empty
-glare
-harsh

That is mainly due to the absence of a character in the painting,
the setting of the hard concrete wall and the direct sunlight that
enter so brightly into the empty room.
